Nairobi Giraffe Sanctuary

After the elephant orphanage, Mimi and I went to the giraffe sanctuary, where you could get real up close with a giraffe, which was great fun.
If you held a food pellet in your mouth you could get a big giraffe kiss, but their tongues were so slobbery and sticky, it felt like a good idea not to!

Nairobi Elephant Orphanage

At last, I am getting round to blogging photos from my 23 day African safari in East Africa.
I flew from London to Nairobi to meet up with the group but had 1 day spare to explore Nairobi. As its often nicknamed Nairobbery, I was not too keen to head into town itself, which did not look to exciting, so instead went off to the local elephant orphanage, where they rescue orphaned babies, and raise them and release them into the wild when they are ready.
They have so far saved and release over 200 elephants.
Mostly, the elephants are orphaned from poachers killing their parents, and of course some drought as well.

At the campsite, I met the lovely Mimi, who was also on our trip, so we went to the orphanage together.

At the orphanage, everyone lines up to see the feeding of the babies, which are split into 2 age groups. Its great to see them rush down from their enclosure to the feeding ground, they all look so excited to be getting fed!

This poor chap above got his trunk caught in a snare, and you can see the wound, which means he cant drink from his trunk, as it all comes out of the wound.

Close up of the skin - rough stuff!

 Frisky chaps!

 Kicking up a dust storm!

Look at those long eyelashes.
