There's always the dilemma of which party to attend without hurting anyone's feelings (particularly applicable to Varsity days, if you know what I mean, Boet.)
Then there are the usual drunken loudmouths screaming in your ear about how much they love you (when indeed they certainly don't), and thanks to the Scottish, the inescapable chorus of Auld Lang Syne - Just once I'd like to round off the year with a rollicking version of "Donald, where's your troosers!"
Then off course at the back of your mind is that old reminder that another year has gone past, and you are still no closer to being that millionaire!
And finally, there tend to be hundreds of happy couples kissing passionately on the strike of 12, reminding you once again what a curse it is to be perpetually single.
Which is why I always enjoyed rounding off the year with a good old night shift chilling with my homies at Forwardslash!
If that wasn't possible, there was always the old Ally-Graeme reunion bash camping in Palmiet - indeed a very close second best to having drunk customers yelling in my ear that they havent been paid yet!
Now stuck in london, with no nice warm beaches to camp on, and no work to go to yet, what was I to do? Naturally, I decided to relive my youth watching Sol Kerzner's fireworks from the chimney, and go and watch the Fireworks at the London Eye. I was taunted by many as being a crazy fool to brave the crowds, but managed to persuade Carmen to come along. She in turn convinced her lounge dweller, the charming Mrs D to come along as well, so off we set, me very excited to test my photography skills on this challenging night.
As you can see below, my skills are clearly not that developed yet, not being a night photography champion.
London Eye lit up.
Carmen and Mrs D strike a pose.
We found a jolly place, close to the eye, forming a beautiful frame with a tree in the middle. Somehow, when the fireworks started, the tree seemed to dominate the scene, so instead of firework photos, above are some lovely photos of a tree with various shades of backlighting

Happy New Year, Rusty!! Sorry we couldn't amke Palmiet this year. Or that you were unable to find a night shift. Looks like you had a good time though! Fireworks look great. And who the hell is the copper? Is he a real one!
