Troon to Inverary

After a day in Glasgow I headed down to Troon, where my old geocaching friend, Batsgonemad was coming via ferry from Northern Ireland, for 4 solid days of geocaching!

Alas, just 100m from picking me up, poor Bats had an accident, in his/his wife's brand new car! Ow!! Luckily the car was still drivable, unlike the poor lady in the other car!

Troon has a long beach, great for riding horses.

After heading up the coast North, we caught the ferry west over to Dunoon.

Glen Lean gunpowder factory. We would never have found this beautiful secluded spot of it were not for geocaching. The factories were deliberately hidden away in wee glens to prevent the public getting injured when thhey blew up accidentally!
Unfortunately, like most places in scotland, we were soon chased away by the midges!

Now this sure was a gorgeous viewpoint over the Kyles of Bute, where 2 lochs/kyles meet at the northern tip of Bute, forming a spectacular junction of 3 bodies of water.

If I am not mistaken, this is the northern tip of Loch Striven. A truly stunning place to sit and enjoy the scenery, while getting bitten by midges.

We were hoping to camp along side Lock Fyne, because aye, it looked a fyne place to spend the night on the shores. But alas, after not having seen a shop pretty much the whole day, we needed some food, so had to proceed until we found a wee pub for dinner. There was a wee pub right here overlooking this castle, but we were viciously chased out due to a private party, otherwise we might have camped here.
So alas, it was much more driving round the other side of the loch till we got to the next town to spend the night, much to our delight, as a charming little village it was!

Ah, those dam midges!!! Horrible bastards. How many caches did you manage to do? I love the factory in the glen - what an exciting find.
