Basel

Last week I took the week off, and went to visit Lorenzo and Guendolina in Basel, and go hiking in the Black Forest for a few days.
It was a great trip, although there was a fair bit of rain, and pretty much cloudy all the time, so my photos did not come out all the great. Anyway, here is a batch of random photos around Basel.

The Rhine is a great river, much nicer than the Thames. It chucks down at a rapid rate, so is really nice to sit and look at and listen to. In warmer weather, you can swim in it and let the currrent take you downstream and get out later.

 Random nice door

On the main church, the Munster.

 Pattern in the ceiling

There were some lovely cloisters in the church, with very green gardens.

get your fresh fruit and veg here!

Apparently that building on the left is the tallest building in Switzerland

The Munster from across the river

This ferry had a really good system of crossing the river. There is a cable strung across the river which is attached to the ferry with another cable. There is a heavy shifting anchor / rudder on the front of the boat, and the ferryman simply needs to switch the rudder, which will angle the boat so that the river pushes it to the other side which will cause the boat to slide along the cable - smart!
And there is a geocache on the ferry as well which was pretty cool, you just need to ask the ferryman for it.

The birds in Basel are really cute and friendly

Signs like these seem pretty common in Basel, not sure if they have a big pee problem in the city!

Bastards. Peeing into a puddle is one of the few pleasures left.
