Croatia - Split

I did a 7 day yacht cruise in Croatia. The cruise started in Split, where I spent the day before the trip. Besides having a funny name, Split is where Goran Ivanisevic
grew up, and is the 2nd bigggest city in Croatia.

Croatia has a pretty cool flag.

View over the town from the old clock tower. See that little jetty sticking out near the right. In the evenings they set up a mobile bar and disco, and its sure a gorgeous spot to enjoy some music and have some drinks! Sadly my photos from there in the evening all came out a bit blurred.

Old roofs from Clock Tower

In the tower. I was mislead by the signposting, and first bought a ticket to the church jewel collection by mistake, which was right next door. They weren't so exciting.

Nice roof tiles - they used to be hand shaped over the crafters thigh.

In the middle of the delightful promenade are these nifty chairs carved in stone. Next to them is a stone table with stone bowls carved in, and a stone slab. At night, the bowls somehow get filled with nuts (almonds when I was there), and you use a cool stone hammer to crack them open on the slab. Anyone walking past can just help themselves to the nuts!

View over the town from the Marjan Peninsula, a pretty exhausting walk in the heat of the day!

Old church on Marjan hill

After the slog up the hill, it was off to the beach for a refreshing dip and some sunset. Well, in Croatia, the beaches tend to be rocks. There was one sandy beach in Split, but that was on the other side of the harbour.

Sunset behind the trees.

Fishing off the rocks

Whoops, shaky hands!
