Maldives snokelling

We spent most of the time in Maldives snorkelling, which was amazing! Warm water, 1000s of fish just of the beach and stunning coral all the way around the island. Here are just some of the many fish we saw - I did not take these photos, no underwater camera!

 large schools of bannerfish

 Clarke's Anemonefish

 Empress Angelfish

Lionfish - we saw this guy lurking in the shadows, and kept our distance!

 Meyer's Butterflyfish

Moorish Idol - not to be confused with the Bannerfish

Not sure exactly what eel I saw, but it gave me the heebie jeebies!

 Oriental Sweetlips

 Parrotfish

Picasso triggerfish - I really liked these guys - they preferred to hand out closer to the sand, not in the main coral reef

Pufferfish, Purcupine fish, box fish ? I am not sure what the difference is.

 Queen Triggerfish

 Royal Angelfish

We saw this type of shark swimming along about 2 m off the beach at night - the water was so clear, you could see him quite well in the moonlight

 Triggerfish

 Trumpetfish

Hooray, we saw a turtle, not sure what species, similar to this - he was a bit shy, and liked to hide under his umbrella shaped coral.

Unicornfish

Blue Tang

I forgot to mention the amazing phosphorescence on the beach at night - again not my photo, but on the 1st night the beach looked similar to this with the phosphorescence - this photo was taken in the Maldives, and that beach looks familiar!
As I walked over it, it stuck to my feet, and the bottom of them glowed as I lifted them - I felt a bit like Iron Man with jet boots.
Also, as I rubbed the phosphorescence, it would form a glowing blue paint like coating over my hands - truly spectacular!

Maldives day 3

Day 3 was gorgeous weather, but we had to leave after lunch, so just time for some more snorkelling before checking out and some photo chances.

Sob, look at those seas, we sure will miss you!

Our island seen from above - I did not take this pic!

Maldives day 2

The second day started off slightly overcast as you can see below, but improved nicely. We pretty much spent the whole day snorkelling and pigging out - a great way to spend the day. Due to all the swimming, seems I didn;t take many photos on day 2!

There was a super cute cat, who liked to hang out around our accomodation. Awwwww!

An interesting tree, with all sorts of paraphenalia hanging off it - corals, dreancatchers etc. Not sure what the significance was though.

In the evenings they sprayed the island to kill mosquitoes, so it was suggested you stay indoors at 5 if you don't like the smoke - it did a good job though, never saw any mosquitoes!

 Funky rubbish bins!

Maldives Biyadoo - day 1

At the airport in Maldives, we were whisked off in a speedboat to get to our island. And what a boat ride it was - 30 min (or was that an hour) at incredible speeds, bouncing and vibrating like a crazy thing!)

The boar trip took us past some gorgeous islands, with stunning blue seas - it was sure hard to take photos while bouncing up and down at such speeds!

Nice place for a romantic dinner!

Arriving at our island, Biyadoo. It's so small, you can walk around it in under 10 minutes, and apparently has one of the best house reefs in the bahamas - the whole island is circled with a small reef, and is great for snorkelling.

Allrighty, arriving in paradise, look at those seas, with plenty of fish to be seen from the pier!

 Welcoming drinks

 Perfect palm to relax under!

Aargh, trying to pose in the bright light without my sunglasses!

Tasty dinner, served on a boat!

 Cat hunts bird!
