Rome - The Colloseum

Zsuzsi, Dora and myself went to Rome for 4 days last week. We stayed at a lovely little shared apartment instead of the usual hostel vibe, which was a nice change. After a really early flight and not much sleep the night before, we all needed a nap when we arrived, but I got up early, to go check out the Colosseum and do some caching while the ladies slept. We all went back to the Colosseum on another day for a proper look.

Centurions everywhere!

In the Colosseum, a cross to commemorate all the killed Christians. The Colosseum apparently got its name for a bronze colossus statue that used to be outside.

The original arena floor is long gone, so here we see the section below the arena, where the gladiators, prisoners, wild animals and props were kept. Apparently, huge sets would rise out of the floor with a fancy hydrolic system, creating a most exciting spectacle!
