Cotswolds 3

After the Tower, it was off home, stopping at this church on the way, with some funky grotesques. A grotesque is a gargoyle without the water spout. What most people think are gargoyles are actually grotesques!



Zanny got into a heated arguement with the church steward about various religious issues, including the drunkenness of Noah, the gnostic gospels and various other things that the steward would refuse to listen to. A most entertaining debate.

Oooooooh, those Grotesques are quite grotesque. I heard once that grotesques were put on churches to ward off grotesque evil spirits.
