One of the nights in Val Thorens the UCPA organised a night ski down the mountain. We had dinner at the restaurant up top, watched the sun set over the mountains, and then got suitably drunk before skiing down with torches - happy times, a great experience!
Quaffing on some vin chaud
Amazing views from the restaurant balcony.
When we were told it was a torchlight descent, I did not realise they meant the old fashioned great big flaming torches!
This added a certain thrill, holding your ski poles in 1 hand and a pretty heavy flaming torch in thhe other - one did not want to fall face first into the flames, and the ice was pretty tricky to ski on in the night. Had one fall, but luckily not while I was holding the torch.
Alas, it was pretty hard to stop and take photos, so only have these 2 which came out okish :o(

Wow, skiing down a mountain in the dark with a big flame in your face. That's hardcore!
