Last weekend I went to visit Dad and Kobus in Belgium, who are in Europe for a month. First up was 2 days in Brussels, so I got to visit Marie at the same time, but sadly Penelope and Marion were not in town that weekend.
Brussels has a really lovely main square, with lots of interesting old building, all done up nicely with some shiny gold filligree!
Of course, when travelling with Dad and Kobus, often a tasty meal is one of the most important parts of experiencing the local culture, so there were plenty of stops for moules and frites, delicious duck and mustard rabbit, and tasty beers, including a delicious old Egyption sour beer recipe, which no-one but me seemed to like!
An interesting take on the London levitating live statues. An American lass was heard to say "I can't beleive his arm isn't getting tired yet!"
That is one shiny gold horse!!
Thats enough of the main square, and how pleasant to see a Tintin mural. Apparently there are about 30 around Brussels, but we never managed to find any others
Cool spave invader decor
Marie joined us for the day, but we think we overdid things when we ordered a "milkshake for 2"
Loved this old building, housing a musical instument museum - which we did not visit though
Inside the old shopping gallery - impressive glass ceiling!
The park near Marie's place. Pretty impressive - reminds me of the Brandeburg gate - even though I have never seen it!
We stayed at one of the highest points in Brussels, on the 19th floor, so had great views from the flat. Including one of this interesting prison, modelled after the famous Pennsylvania Penitentiary. It was designed so a guard in the middle tower could see everywhere - smart!

Wow, I always thought Brussels was a bit dull, but some of those photos make me change my mind. Wish I could have explored it with you all. Ha, ha nice milkshake. And I like the park mural on the wall.
