With Lorenzo and Guendolina in Basel

I had been recommended in Germany to go see the Thanguely museum in Basel, and due to the bad weather, we thought we might as well. He was famous for making weird mechanical contraptions that served no purpose. One of them was a self-destructing machine.

A pregant woman in the gardens outside the museum

One of his machines. A lot of his devices had floor control panels you could stand on to get them moving. This was a converted car which he would parade down the streets.

 Sylish chairs

This was a particularly dang erousdevice, you had to stand well back! The wheel would turn and the stick would beat violently on the metal pole, causing the saw to start slicing through the wood block - happy times!

Some cool graffiti in the subway while out caching

A spot of climbing

 Hows the view Lorenzo?

Lorenzo has the same birthday as me, so he organised a braai at his works sport center just before I had to head back to London , which was great, and his Italian friends were all very cool, and we got in a spot of volleyball - never been able to get the hang of that darn game!

The apple pie Guendolina baked, and the chocolate and pear cake I baked - yum!
It was also Lorenzo's friend Roberto's birthday 2 days before ours, so we had a triple birthday - happy birthday us!! :o)
